LIHU‘E — The public is invited to join the Kaua‘i Cowboys and the Indiana Crush help the disaster victims of Japan, Monday at Vidinha Stadium.
Al Ah Loo, coach of the Kaua‘i Cowboys, said the home team will be playing a game with the Indiana Crush. A portion of the proceeds will go to help Japan disaster victims, especially the young children, he said.
Game time is 7 p.m. Monday with a group playing live music outside the stadium area prior to the game.
“The Indiana Crush has an Athlete Outreach Foundation which offers help,” Ah Loo said. “They especially want to help with the Japan disaster. This is one of the positive things we can do by playing football.”
The Tyler Steel Company band, which will be performing during halftime as well.
Ah Loo said he met the coach of the Crush through the Internet.
“After we did a few exchanges, he called me and we got to talking,” he said. “The Crush is on O‘ahu playing a team there Saturday. They’re just adding a little side trip to Kaua‘i and we can play them.”
Ah Loo, who was walking the lean and trimmed-down Kaua‘i Cowboys through the Vidinha Stadium, said a lot of these players need to get a feel for the lined field.
“Normally, we practice in Hanama‘ulu where there’re no lines,” Ah Loo said. “We are thankful to the county for allowing us to use the field between the Kaua‘i Youth Football and the Red and White games.”
He said the big test for the lean and trimmed Kaua‘i Cowboys will be Monday at 7 p.m.
