Menehune open boys volleyball today at HHSAA tournament

LIHU‘E — The Waimea Menehune will open up their boys volleyball postseason today at McKinley High School.

Entering the New City Nissan Boys Volleyball Division II State Championships unseeded among the eight-team field, Waimea will take on No. 4 seed Kohala at 5 p.m. on O‘ahu.

Those with access to ESPN 1500 AM radio can hear the match live, as the station will be carrying all action from McKinley High School, including both semifinal matches Friday and all three (fifth place, third place, championship) matches on Saturday.

After their four-set victory over the Kaua‘i Red Raiders in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation championship match on May 3, the Menehune (9-4) earned the automatic bid to the state tournament.

Kohala (15-0), the top team from the Big Island Interscholastic Federation, will be the first test.

No. 1 seed Hawai‘i Baptist (14-3), out of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, will follow at 7 p.m., taking on Kahuku (12-5), from the O‘ahu Interscholastic Association.

No. 2 Castle (15-0), also from the OIA, will be playing over at Maryknoll School against Hawai‘i Prep (10-5) of the BIIF. That match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

It will be preceded by No. 3 Seabury Hall (8-1), from the Maui Interscholastic League, taking on Lanakila Baptist (11-8) of the ILH.
