NUKOLI‘I — More than a hundred women found bargains in a variety of new purses and bags, Sunday at the second annual Passion for Purses at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
A fundraiser for the Hale ‘Opio Kaua‘i program, women could browse through the wide variety of offerings in the silent auction or take part in the live auction which was helped along by the shift at the Kapa‘a Fire Station.
Ron Mizutani, whose wife was serving as a judge for an equine event at the CJM Country Stables in Po‘ipu, served as the afternoon’s host, kidding with the bidders to save something for his wife.
All of the events were melded together with the special canapes and tea prepared by the Kaua‘i Beach Resort’s culinary department under Chef Mark Sassone with live entertainment featuring a mix of contemporary and traditional Hawaiian numbers with a local flavor.
Mary Navarro of Hale ‘Opio said although ticket sales were not as brisk as last year, shoppers had more to browse through as contributions of bags and items filling the bags were up from last year’s inaugural event.
Hale ‘Opio Kaua‘i, an agency of Kaua‘i United Way, is a nonproft organization providing services on Kaua‘i since 1975, states its website.
Hale ‘Opio provides residential and community programs to enhance quality of life and ‘ohana.
Since its opening, Hale ‘Opio has continued to evolve and services currently include programs in education, prevention diversion and treatment for boys and girls from birth through 20 years old.
