PO‘IPU — When doors to the Koloa Landing at Po‘ipu opened, Tuesday, the official opening blessing ceremony marked the first property in Hawai‘i to fly the Wyndham Grand flag.
“Koloa Landing at Po‘ipu Beach Wyndham Grand is an incredible addition to Wyndham’s growing portfolio of luxurious hotels and resorts in the world’s most sought-after vacation destinations,” said Jeff Wagoner, president of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts following the traditional Hawaiian blessing officiated by Kaiulani Kahalekai. “We are incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to offering travelers the utmost in high-end accomodations and personalized services.”
Wagoner said when Wyndham Grand opens a resort, it follows guidelines of being respectful, delivering great expectations and being responsible and what can it do in the community.
Beth Tokioka, representing both Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. and the Kaua‘i County Council said the opening of a resort has a lot of unseen parts and benefits.
One of those unseen parts is the work Layton Construction, the general contractor of the project, provided for about 250 people, residents of this island who could use the work during the tight economic crunch.
“Now that the doors are open, there are an additional 50 to 60 Kaua‘i residents who are employed here,” Tokioka said. “And as the project expands, hopefully more will find employment here.”
She added that some of the benefits the County of Kaua‘i received include infrastructure improvements such as the sidewalks and widening of Po‘ipu Road as well as improved water lines.
“Koloa Landing has already demonstrated its commitment to the community because their people are also involved in building homes with the Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity as well as being active with the Kaua‘i Marathon which is a significant economic event for the island,” Tokioka said.
A spokesperson for the Po‘ipu Beach Villas, whose Chairman of the Board Bill Child was also in attendance, said the opening marked the completion of Phase I which includes the lobby and villas. Phase II will include the main pool area.
The $140 million project is set on 25 acres of tropical land with 85 one- to four-bedroom residential style luxury villas, states a release from Koloa Landing.
It allows for the unique concept of service selection for a retreat which is as high end and well-staffed, or as private as desired.
Additional villas are scheduled to be completed in the next phases of construction, the release states.
The Villas of Koloa Landing are not only for overnight guests, but are also available for full ownership, granting exceptional opportunity to be a part of this beach side community, the release states.
This residential-style living at Koloa Landing is part of a master-planned community with two, three and four bedroom furnished residences available.
