Most of us would agree with “lucky we live Kaua‘i.” But that’s not to say we can’t dream of other beaches.
In Coffee Bean, you’ll get a taste (literally) of California dreaming with the “Malibu Dream,” a juicy smoothie that will transfer you right back to Miki “Da Cat” Dora’s backyard in the 1960s.
The iconoclastic Dora passed away in 2002, but his poetic rebel views — and actions — are still deep-rooted in surfing culture.
The lovely Amorina Bush (no connection with former presidents) also has an iconoclastic side, overthrowing traditional ideas and beliefs — her fiancé works for CERN, an Europe-based project trying to find the “God particle” by colliding two beams of subatomic particles inside a circular accelerator called the Large Hadron Collider.
Research at CERN may throw the world of physics upside-down, by seeking and finding answers about the universe.
Amorina’s little friend is called Zola, short for Zoloft. “He’s my happy pill,” said Amorina, adding that the sweet little guy lets the chidren do whatever they want to him.
When Zola was still a puppy, he wandered into Amorina’s front door at almost midnight. Her landlord didn’t allow dogs, so she told Zola he couldn’t bark, or else. The little guy has never barked since.
Coffee Bean is in Waipouli, between Foodland and Fun Factory. It opens daily at 5:30 a.m. Sunday through Thursday it closes at 9:30 p.m. On Friday and Saturday it closes at 10 p.m.

Whipped cream
Iconoclastic spirit
