Justin Kollar appointed to Hawai‘i Board of Examiners
Justin Kollar, a deputy county attorney assigned to the Kaua’i Police Department and Kaua’i Civil Defense Agency, was recently appointed to the Hawai‘i Supreme Court Board of Examiners by Chief Justice Mark E. Recktenwald, a county press release announced on Friday.
“I am honored to be given this opportunity to expand my service to the public,” Kollar said in a prepared statement. “I believe that part of my kuleana as an attorney in Hawai‘i is to support the practice of law in this state and help to ensure the integrity and fairness of the bar admission process.”
Kollar’s appointment is for a three-year term beginning June 1.
The primary role of the Board of Examiners is to examine the qualifications of each individual that applies for the privilege of practicing law in Hawai’i, taking into consideration the applicant’s knowledge of legal ethics and his or her moral character.
The board is also responsible for administering bar examinations, and for reporting its recommendations to the Hawai’i Supreme Court, who then makes the final decision on all admissions to the state bar.
Board members are not compensated for their services, but they are reimbursed for travel and incidental expenses related to the performance of their duties.
In 2010, Kollar was tapped for the Hawai’i State Bar Association’s Leadership Institute. The goal of the leadership institute is to foster professional growth and enhance leadership skills of future leaders from all ethnic and cultural groups that represent the Hawai’i State Bar Association.
Kollar is also the current president of the Kaua‘i Bar Association.
He has been with the County Attorney’s office since October 2009. Prior to that, he was a deputy prosecuting attorney with the Prosecuting Attorney’s office.
Before coming to work for the County of Kaua’i, Kollar served as a law clerk to Intermediate Court of Appeals Associate Judge Daniel R. Foley, and was previously employed in the City of Boston’s Law Department as an assistant corporation counsel.
Hale ‘Opio welcomes new board member
Hale ‘Opio Kaua‘i’s board president Tom Lodico and executive director LaVerne Bishop welcome new board member Haunani Kaiminauauao Posney.
Posney most recently brought attention to the dangerous traffic situation at Koloa Elementary School and began a crossing guard program that resulted in a significant increase in children bicycling and walking to school.
“Thanks for caring for the safety and health of our keiki, Posney and welcome aboard,” Bishop said.
