Keith Nonaka of the Kaua‘i AJA All-Stars was awarded the tournament’s Batting Champion, finishing with a .571 average. Nonaka opened with a 2-4 showing, Friday, scoring once and claiming an RBI before ending 2-3 against Maui, Sunday.
Coming from a 4-0 deficit, Saturday, Kaua‘i was relegated to the consolation game following a 7-6 loss to Hawai‘i in the opening round despite scoring four runs in the sixth and seventh innings and holding Big Island to just three runs between the sixth and eighth frames.
Kaua‘i finished with six runs on nine hits led by Ikaika Pezario finishing 3-5, scoring twice, Micah Furtado ending 2-5 and scoring once, Allan Mundon ending with 2-4, scoring twice and claiming two RBI.
Nonaka led the Sunday effort that came after Maui drove in five runs in the second inning before Kaua‘i got on the boards in the fourth frame when Furtado scored on a Maui throwing error.
Keith Nonaka led the offensive effort with two hits followed by Bradley Maruyama, Furtado and Scott Yamase getting hits.
Mikey Cardinez suffered the loss to the Big Island, going the distance with seven runs allowed on 13 hits while walking five and striking out seven.
Owen Koishigawa suffered the loss against Maui, going 6.1 innings with six runs allowed on 10 hits with two batters walking and one striking out.
