The Friends of the North Shore Library at Princeville recently announced that Jean Ann Flaherty, a library assistant since 2005, was one of two women honored statewide by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i.
Flaherty received the Excellence in Service Award 2010 in front of an audience of statewide librarians in Honolulu on Feb. 24, a news release states.
She was being honored for “Outstanding contributions made to the summer reading program which resulted in 177 participants in the program who read 945 books in five weeks. Jean Ann has the ability to connect with library patrons to teach, to nurture the love of reading, and to instill the habit of life long learning,” said Jane Dickson, Awards Committee chair for the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i.
Flaherty was allowed to make remarks where she acknowledged feeling honored and humbled as there are so many “worthy members of the workforce statewide,” and how deeply she felt this honor to work with “real people of all ages.”
She accepted the award on behalf of the Princeville Library staff and thanked the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i, the release states.
The state Legislature will recognize and congratulate Flaherty on Wednesday.
She will be joined by the other service award recipient, Irmagard Pickard of O‘ahu.
