Kaua‘i Underground Artists, KUGA, will host a one-day-only spring break hip-hop dance workshop on Monday, March 14, at Kilauea Parish Hall.
“This workshop is something positive to spend spring break doing,” said Lila Metzger, co-founder of KUGA. “Kids will get a taste of what to expect at Love Life this year.”
Love Life is an annual festival by KUGA, promoting a drug-free and suicide-free culture in Hawai‘i through creative arts exposure and education. At the festival, the community is invited to enjoy an all-styles dance showcase, fashion show and various Kaua‘i vendors promoting positive, creative outlets. All proceeds from KUGA’s spring break workshop will go towards funding this year’s Love Life Festival.
This is also the first year KUGA is bringing its workshop to the North Shore.
“We get a lot of inquiries from the east and north shores, so we are making the effort to offer the same hip-hop and breaking education available to those living far from the KUGA House,” Metzger said. The KUGA House is located on Kaumuali‘i Highway in Kalaheo next to the 76 Gas Station.
Monday’s workshop starts at 10 a.m. with Teenyz Hip-Hop class, ages 4 to 7. 11 a.m. is the Young Gunz Hip-Hop class, ages 8 to 12. Noon starts the Beginning Breaking class, open to all ages. Finally at 1 p.m. is the Tenacious Teenz Hip-Hop class for ages 13 and over. Each class is $15 and is an hour long. Teaching these classes are KUGA company members Cherisse Rita, Logan Lazo, Kina Powell and Metzger. KUGA encourages those interested to pre-register by today to receive a 20 percent discount.
