The Hawai‘i Pacific University softball team will be recognized on the floor of the Hawai‘i State House of Representatives at noon today, states a release from the HPU athletic department. The players and coaches will be guests of State Rep. Karl Rhoads (D — Chinatown-Downtown).
The women’s softball team won its first-ever NCAA Division II national championship in May 2010. In the championship game, the Sea Warriors came from behind to defeat Valdosta State of Georgia, 4-3. The team’s 50-8 season record set a school mark.
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association also selected HPU’s softball staff as its Division II Coaching Staff of the Year.
Former Hawai‘i Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona proclaimed June 17, 2010 as Hawai‘i Pacific University Lady Sea Warriors Softball Day.
The Lady Sea Warriors are currently ranked fifth nationally, and are on track to record their 900th victory in program history this year.
