Close encounters of the illegal kind
As humpbacks breached Saturday morning off of Po‘ipu Beach, law enforcement was called because a person was spotted swimming right next to the whales. Federal regulations prohibit approaching humpback whales in Hawai‘i closer than 100 yards in the water.
