LIHU‘E — The Garden Island will be investing an estimated $100,000 to install an updated rebuilt folder for its printing press next week, according to President and Publisher Randy Kozerski.
“The Garden Island is committed to making key investments to ensure our readers and advertisers receive the best possible products,” he said.
The Garden Island recently invested over $300,000 in 2006 and another $250,000 in 2008 to refurbish its press and building, respectively.
“The Garden Island is the only publication that can truly call itself ‘Kaua‘i Made’ and we intend to maintain a high level of products and services while providing a great place to work for our roughly 50 employees,” Kozerski said. “TGI has been a fantastic example of a Kaua‘i Made member that truly gives back to the program in addition to receiving the benefits,” said Beth Tokioka, a founder of the program, which endorses authentic products from the island.
“It’s written here, it’s printed here, it’s distributed here … there’s no question that it meets KM standards,” Tokioka said.
The Garden Island will work around the clock to ensure minimal inconvenience for its readers.
“We’ll be using a back-up folder as we replace the main folder which will limit our color options during the upgrade,” said David Tao, TGI’s press and packaging manager. “We expect to be up and running with the new folder for the Sunday press run.”

The Garden Island newspaper along with thegardenisland.com reach 81 percent of the Kaua‘i market each week, according to an independent survey compiled in December 2009.

This latest investment demonstrates our commitment to provide the best local news, information and advertising option via high-quality products.”
The Garden Island newspaper, Kaua‘i’s newspaper of record, was first published in 1902. Today, The Garden Island continues to be published and distributed seven days a week. In addition, news about Kaua‘i is sent across the globe on thegardenisland.com, Kaua‘i’s best-read website with over 1 million page views per month. The visitor publication Essential Kaua‘i is published every quarter and the Kaua‘i Business Report is the company’s monthly business publication.
