Ruby “Terry” Arliene Nuivo of Puhi died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 12, 2010, at age 70. Born in Butte Mountain, Mont., Jan. 5, 1940, she retired as a nurse from the State of Hawai‘i’s Department of Health.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Nuivo; daughter, Mary Nuivo of California; son, Anthony Lee “Tony” Nuivo of Puhi; one granddaughter; brother, Thomas Phipps of North Carolina; sister, Marianne Phipps of Florida, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, Dec. 20, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation at 8 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Phyllis Keahi
Phyllis Kuulei Kaho‘ohanohano Pa Keahi of Anahola died Nov. 6, 2010, at Straub Hospital in Honolulu at age 78. Born Oct. 1, 1932, in Hanalei, she was self-employed running a lunch wagon Kuulei Snack at Ha‘ena Dry Cave.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Keahi; brothers, Daniel, Asa and Palu Pa; sister, Annie Keawemauhili.
She is survived by her sons, Domi (Carole) Ragsac Jr., Mo‘opuna Joya Ahonui Bowman (Chris); sister, Nora Burnett (Marvin); step-children, Alvin Keahi (Carol), Joanna Yates (Randall), and Puanani Carvalho (George); and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, at Kapa‘a Missionary Church. Greeting of family at 9:30 a.m. and service at 10:30 a.m.
Ruby Uyeda
Ruby Y. Uyeda of ‘Ele‘ele died Dec. 13, 2010 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 88. Born April 10, 1922, in ‘Ele‘ele, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by husband Shigeo Uyeda; sons Aaron (Kathy) Uyeda of Waimea, Kaua‘i and Paul (Kit) Uyeda of Aiea; daughters Lois (Duane) Garrison of Lakewood, Wash., and Eve Kurasaki of Lihu‘e; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at a later date. Family request no koden.

Takeo Sakamoto
Takeo Sakamoto of Kapa‘a died Dec. 1, 2010, at home at age 77. Born Dec. 20, 1932, in Kapa‘a, he was a retired heavy equipment mechanic with E.F. Nielson.
He is survived by brothers Kameichi (Mae) Sakamoto of Lihu‘e and Haruichi Sakamoto of Kent, Wash.; sister Matsuko Sakamoto of Kapa‘a; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held at a later date. Family request no koden.

Carolina Ines
Carolina Galapir Ines of Koloa died Dec. 4, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 83. Born Dec. 1, 1927, in the Philippines, she was a retired laborer.
She is survived by her husband, Pastor Ines; daughter, Mildred Ines; son, Larry Ines; brother, Bilarmino (Belen) Galapir; sisters, Florida Galapir, Pacita Galapir; and two grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 18, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 8 to 9:45 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at the Koloa Public Cemetery.

Paula Field
Paula Dean Field of Kapa‘a died Dec. 7, 2010, in her home at age 55. Born in Florida, Paula graduated from Kalani High School in 1973 and subsequently resided on O‘ahu, the Big Island and Kaua‘i.
She is survived by her mother, Ana Vollmann; sister, Jacque Steenman; and daughter, Jennifer Shinyeda. She was loved and will be missed.
A private service will take place on O‘ahu.

Emilie Batangan
Emilie Batangan of Honolulu died Nov. 27, 2010, at age 52. Born in Lihu‘e on Oct. 24, 1958, she was a CT technologist at Castle Medical Center.
She is survived by her parents, Epifanio and Christina Batangan of Lihu‘e; two brothers, Edwin Batangan of California, Reuben (Lyla Eldrege) Batangan of Maui; sister, Elsie (Glenn Perry) Batangan of Honolulu; four nephews, one niece, numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.; burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Shigeyuki “Ciga” Sasaki of Koloa died Dec. 9, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 91. Born Aug. 2, 1919, in Koloa, he was a superintendent for 47 years with Grove Farm Company.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Sasaki; daughters, Kathleen (Peter Sapinoso) Sasaki, Gwen (Egon) Silva, Pearl (Denis) Souza, Lynnette (Phil Brewer) Salazar, Sherrice (Brian) Souza; son, Wade Sasaki; brothers, William Sasaki, Masato Sasaki; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
