Kapa‘a High School soccer players, coaches, parents and other volunteers turned out Saturday morning to lend helping hands to The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park Beach Clearing Team. Thomas Noyes, general coordinator, said the group packed the county’s roll-off container full to the brim with the driftwood that littered the beach at the main swimming pond at Lydgate Park. ‘Sadly, the keiki pond remains inundated with driftwood. It was more than this crew of volunteers could clear, so hopefully the county will be able to dispatch a machine soon to remove that mass of driftwood before it deteriorates in the pond,’ he added.
