LIHU‘E — The Garden Island newspaper and the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i are teaming up again this year and asking the community to help make the holidays happier for less-fortunate residents through The Garden Island/Zonta Christmas Fund.
From now through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share stories of families who could use a little holiday cheer along with an appeal for monetary donations of any size.
The names have been changed to protect their privacy. Funds raised will be distributed to needy families by Zonta Club members, who purchase gift certificates at appropriate businesses to help make these simple wishes come true.
Because of logistical limitations, only monetary donations can be accepted. Checks made payable to Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation can be mailed to P.O. Box 3032, Lihu‘e, HI 96766. Brighten a family’s Christmas
Jack is a 2-year-old boy who was born extremely premature. As a result he suffered complications in his health and development. He is not able to walk by himself, play with toys or talk. Jack has been receiving services from Easter Seals and the public health nurse. Caring for Jack has taken a toll on his family including his two older siblings. They could use toys and clothes to make their Christmas brighter. (E1)

Nancy is a 2-year-old girl. She was born with a medical condition that causes speech delay, hearing loss and difficulty with eating. She had multiple surgeries to correct the medical condition. Nancy has also been receiving services from Easter Seals and public health nurse. She has been making progress with her speech. Like many families, they are living on limited income and the would appreciate any help with purchasing toys and household items. (E2)

Sam is a 2-year-old boy who is developmentally delayed so he’s receiving therapy services from Easter Seals. His family is homeless so they’ve been moving from beach to beach. His parents are doing the best they can but it’s been challenging not having a stable place to live. The family could use a nice meal to celebrate the holidays. (E3)
