LIHU‘E — The Garden Island announces the arrival of two new writers to its newsroom this week.
Vanessa Van Voorhis will be the new business reporter for the paper. The University of Oregon School of Journalism graduate’s most recent work has been for West Hawai‘i Today on the Big Island and for The Wall Street Examiner’s financial news and analysis website.
“I’m confident that the business community and the readers at large will look forward to Vanessa’s daily stories and Sunday business section,” TGI Publisher Randy Kozerski said.
“I’m looking forward to exploring the local economy here and learning and reporting more on what drives key local industries like tourism and agriculture,” Van Voorhis said. “I’m excited to be here.”
Kaua‘i resident and San Jose State University journalism graduate Andrea Frainier will be the next Lifestyle writer for The Garden Island. She will be taking the reins from Pam Woolway, whose last day is next Wednesday.
“While it is sad to see Pam leave, we wish her the best in her pursuit of other ambitions in life and I have the utmost faith in Andrea’s ability to write outstanding features and produce an excellent weekly Lifestyle section for the paper,” TGI Managing Editor Nathan Eagle said.
“I know I have big shoes to fill, but I’m excited to share all of the wonderful events and activities happening across the island. Kaua‘i is home to such a vibrant and tight-knit community, and I’m proud be a part of The Garden Island team,” Frainier said. “While not working, I enjoy hiking, beach bumming and cruising with my mangy dog, Marley.”
