LIHU‘E — The University of Hawai‘i women’s soccer team suffered its second straight road defeat with a 3-0 loss to Saint Mary’s on Tuesday, according to a UH release.
The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 2-5 on the season.
Two days after surrendering a program record eight goals in a loss to nationally ranked California, UH looked to rebound against an undefeated Gaels squad. However, the Rainbow Wahine gave up three goals and couldn’t counter back as Saint Mary’s moved to a perfect 5-0 on the year.
UH hung tough in the first half, however Sara Ives struck just before halftime for Saint Mary’s, scoring her first goal of the season in the 44th minute. Jordan Marada provided the Gaels an insurance goal in the 59th minute, before Brianna Campos concluded the scoring with a goal in the 73rd minute.
UH managed to get off just three shots for the match, including just one in the second half. It was the third time this season that the Rainbow Wahine were shut out and first time on the road, after the team combined for four goals in its previous two road matches.
The Rainbow Wahine now return home to the Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Stadium to host the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic, Sept. 17-19.
UH opens the tournament against Washington State on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
