Crews have begun constructing the walls of what will soon be a commercial kitchen facility for small business vendors and East Kaua‘i residents, including the 400 families in the Anahola homestead community.
The project was spearheaded by the Anahola Hawaiian Homes Association in partnership with Kaua‘i Community College and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement with grant funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through its Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Institutions Assisting Communities grant program.
“We are so excited to finally see the commercial kitchen structure begin to go up,” said Lorraine Rapozo, AHHA Board President. “This facility is a huge win for our community! Mahalo nui to KCC, CNHA and HUD for their inspiring partnership, and also to the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands for working with us to achieve our vision of a certified kitchen and outdoor marketplace. We are all eagerly anticipating the completion of this project.”
AHHA is an association of Anahola homesteaders founded more than 30 years ago to promote the quality of life of the Anahola community. For more information on the Anahola commercial kitchen or marketplace, please contact Lorraine Rapozo at (808) 820-8029.
