LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i police officers arrested Anahola resident David Alapa‘i last week on a variety of charges including unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, a county press release states.
He had allegedly eluded police earlier on Tuesday when they spotted him driving an unlicensed motorcycle — a dirt bike — on Kawaihau Road in Kapa‘a. Officers, out of concern for a young child riding as a passenger on the front of the motorcycle, terminated that pursuit, the Friday release states.
Alapa‘i refused to stop the motorcycle when police first attempted to stop him, states the release.
An officer recognized Alapa‘i, and an hour later stopped him driving a sedan on Kukuihale Street in Anahola.
He was arrested, without incident, for driving while his license was revoked (two counts), resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle, reckless driving, second-degree reckless endangering, failure to appear in court and contempt of court (two counts).
He was also arrested for second-degree theft and fourth-degree theft for two unrelated cases.
Further investigation led officers to Alapa‘i’s campsite in Anahola where the motorcycle he was driving earlier was located, and another motorcycle was discovered nearby.
Both motorcycles were reported stolen in July.
Alapa‘i was arrested for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, booked at KPD cellblock and was being held in lieu of $7,200 bail.
Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call KPD dispatch, 241-1711.
