Under partly cloudy skies the swimmers took to the water at 9 a.m., a news release states.
Prior to the start of the race, Naomi Yokotake gave the pule and Koko Kanealii was emcee.

There was a new timing system this year which really streamlined the event and presented the swimmers with printout cards of their times and placings in their division and overall.
