“It shouldn’t hurt to be a child” is the motto of the nonprofit Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, hosting their Fourth Annual “Treasure Our Children” fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Kaua‘i Lagoons tennis courts overlooking Kalapaki Bay.
Headlining the event are Sean Carrillo and Michael Barretto, offering contemporary Hawaiian music.
There will be heavy pupu and a silent auction with items including original art, zip-line tours, golf, jewelry, vintage items, furniture and a portable grill. Monies raised provide for requests from social-service organizations connected to Kaua‘i Children’s Justice Center.
KCJC is a facility maintained by the state Judiciary, providing a supportive, homelike setting where children who may have been victims of sexual abuse or serious physical abuse can be interviewed, states a press release.
“We supply funding for investigation and enhancements for kids,” said FCJC board member Sue Strickland. “If a social worker says a child would like to take art lessons we help with funding. We also help with continuing education for people who do the investigations.”
Tickets are $35 and available at The Art Shop, Lihu‘e, and Garden Island Properties, Kapa‘a.
