LIHU‘E — Applications for the 2011 Adult Leadership Program are currently being accepted by Leadership Kaua‘i, said Sherri Patrick.
That program got a boost Wednesday morning when representatives of the Kaua‘i subsidiary firms of A&B Hawai‘i presented Patrick, the Leadership Kaua‘i executive director, and her staff with a grant for $2,500.
“A&B Foundation and Leadership Kaua‘i have a shared vision to help educate, inspire and instill hope for Hawai‘i’s future,” Patrick said in a release. “With the help of the grant from A&B Foundation, Leadership Kaua‘i continues to educate and engage a cross section of diverse youth and adults who come from all parts of the island and represent a diverse social and economic background to serve our community collectively.”
A&B Hawai‘i was represented by A&B Properties, Kaua‘i Commercial, Matson Navigation and the Kaua‘i Coffee Company.
Patrick said it is the mission of Leadership Kaua‘i to provide Kaua‘i’s youth with resources and incentives to return to Kaua‘i upon completion of their college education. It is also the goal of Leadership Kaua‘i to develop effective leadership skills and a philanthropic attitude in all of the program participants.
Leadership Kaua‘i focuses on the process of collaboration where class members agree to share a purpose and develop awareness on important community issues and take actions to resolution.
Community service projects are developed, implemented and continue even after students have graduated from the program, Patrick said.
“To date, 21 community projects benefitting the lives of the people of Kaua‘i have been initiated,” Patrick said. “This leadership initiative is a practical, hands-on activity that expands learning from speaking about leadership to practicing leadership.”
