Buddha had an awakening more than 2,500 years ago when he realized all things come full circle and will transcend the universe.
Kenny Miyoshi had his awakening moment only a few years ago, when together with a friend he purchased an ex-tour bus and retrofitted it to become a mobile shave-ice stand, fulfilling a childhood dream.
Kenny and his friend took two years to fine-tune the bus that now sells shave ice around Kaua‘i. Masa’s has been open for only a year, and Kenny is living his life to the fullest, just like a child full of hopes, dreams and time, a priceless commodity in adult life.
In the mornings, Kenny goes crabbing, searching for those giant-clawed and not-so-friendly-but-delicious Samoan crabs.
Wednesday through Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Kenny gets into his state-of-the-art shave-ice bus and usually parks by Kalapaki Bay. On Mondays he goes to the Sunshine Market in Lihu‘e, behind Kmart.
Kenny said between crabbing and shave ice, he does all right. The smile stamped on his face only reinforces it. To top it off, his wife works for an airline company, which means at least five Las Vegas trips every year.
Masa’s Shave Ice also caters to parties and special events. Kenny can be reached at 635-3411.
