LIHU‘E — Scott Ashworth, Director of Golf at Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club in Lihu‘e, was named Golf Professional of the Year by Marriott Golf, Tuesday.
According to a release from Marriott, the Golf Professional of the Year award recognizes an individual who consistently performs and exceeds in areas of sales and profit; leadership in personnel development; innovative program development; and affinity programs.
Ashworth has served as the Director of Golf at Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club since 2007 and has been a driving force in the Aloha PGA section for the past several years. Currently he serves as the Aloha section President, a post that he will hold until 2011.
A respected and passionate golf industry leader, Ashworth has also been recognized by The PGA of America for his outstanding contributions to the game with the Horton Smith Award for education in 2007, the Aloha Section Golf Professional of the Year in 2008 and the Bill Strausbaugh Award for mentoring Golf Professionals in 2009.
A native of Spokane, Wash., Ashworth discovered his passion for golf at a young age through his father, who served as a golf course superintendent for 30 years. A graduate of the University of Washington, he began working at their driving range as the youngest golf instructor ever hired.
In 1993, Ashworth accepted the position of Assistant Golf Professional at McCormick Woods and was promoted to Head Golf Professional in 1997 when he received his PGA membership.
“We are honored to present Scott with the Golf Professional of the Year award,” said Bill Nault, vice president of Marriott Golf. “His commitment to excellence and his leadership qualities in the golf industry are unmatched and we are grateful for his dedication and his contributions to the Marriott Golf team.”
