LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce announced its recipients of the 2010 scholarships who will be receiving their individual $1,000 awards at a July 23 reception dinner at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
Among the recipients, two are from Waimea High School, two are from Kaua‘i High School and one is from Kapa‘a High School.
Alana Agcaoili, a Kapa‘a graduate, will be leaving for the Art Institute of Las Vegas to pursue a fashion design major.
Jade Cano, a Waimea High School tennis standout, will be working towards a career in nursing, her course of study taking her to Kaua‘i Community College.
Rouben Buyat, a Waimea graduate, will be studying architecture at the University of Washington.
Daisy Liberato plans on majoring in biomedical engineering at Creighton University in Nebraska and James Pena, another of the Kaua‘i High School graduates, majoring in business management at the George Fox University.
This year’s scholarship recipients earned their respective awards based on scholastic and academic achievements, community service and financial need, said Edie Ignacio Neumiller, a member of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee.
Vonnell Ramos serves as chair of the Scholarship Committee and Oscar Portugal is the Executive Director of the Kaua‘i Filipino Chamber of Commerce.
Warren Haruki, president and chief executive officer of Grove Farm, will deliver the keynote message at the dinner reception.
