LIHU‘E — Friends of Amber Jackson, flabbergasted that she just up and disappeared nine days ago, have assembled a $10,000 reward for her whereabouts and safe return, they said.
“She doesn’t have any enemies that I know of,” said Tom Summers, who was Jackson’s employer for around three years, and considers her a dear friend.
“She just disappeared,” leaving behind her purse, cell phone, car, hiking boots, running shoes and other items at her Kahuna Road home in Kapa‘a.
Friends like Summers and co-workers in the Lihu‘e Hawai‘i State Teachers Association office, where she worked part time, have managed to gather $10,000 for a reward for her safe return.
While Summers hates to think the worst, Jackson’s sudden disappearance puts at least a hint of suspicion that foul play is involved, though so far Kaua‘i Police Department investigators have not found any evidence of foul play.
“We’re still actively investigating this case with the help of DLNR (state Department of Land and Natural Resources agents) who have widened their search of rural areas where she was known to frequent,” said Darryl Perry, KPD chief, in an e-mail Thursday.
Summers said Jackson’s property abuts state land oftentimes used as hunting grounds by local hunters.
Officers with KPD continue to ask for the public’s help with finding a Jackson, 57, states a county news release.
Jackson was last seen around 9 p.m. June 23. She was wearing gray sweat pants and a v-neck T-shirt.
She is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds. She has blue eyes and shoulder-length blond hair, is Caucasian with a thin build.
Anyone with information about Jackson is urged to call KPD dispatch at 241-1711, the KPD Investigative Services Bureau at 241-1696, or Crime Stoppers, 241-1887.
Summers said Jackson had dinner with one of her tenants on June 23, and that the tenant last saw her around 9:30 p.m. that day.
Her HSTA supervisors worried when Jackson didn’t arrive for work at noon June 24 as scheduled, and girlfriends were concerned when Jackson also didn’t show for a dinner date with them that evening, said Summers.
