ANAHOLA — A 59-year-old Kekaha man was in critical condition at Wilcox Memorial Hospital Saturday evening after nearly drowning at a beach in Anahola known as “Middles.”
The man had been body surfing with two family members at around 3:05 p.m. when they decided to go in, a county news release states. As they were approaching the beach, a member of the party noticed that the Kekaha man was face down in the water and brought him to shore.
Two lifeguards arrived shortly afterward and hooked the victim up to an automated external defibrillator.
When fire fighters from the Kapa‘a station and medics arrived on scene, they performed advanced life support on the victim.
The man was then taken to Wilcox via ambulance.
