LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Recycles drop bins located behind Kmart are no longer accessible late at night to prevent problems with loitering, a county news release states.
The gate that provides access from the Sears parking lot as well as the Pikake St. entrance will be closed from 7:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. Access from the Borders parking lot will close from 11:30 p.m. to 3 a.m.
The Kaua‘i Recycles Program is available for residential use only and accepts the following items for recycling: corrugated cardboard; newspaper; mixed paper (including junk mail, magazines, white and colored paper, phone books, food boxes, etc); aluminum cans; plastics No. 1 and No. 2; and glass bottles and jars.
There are eight Kaua‘i Recycles drop bin locations throughout the island including: Hanalei transfer station; at the end of Kahau Rd. in Kapa‘a; behind Kmart; next to Brennecke’s Beach Broiler in Po‘ipu; behind Lawa‘i Post Office; ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center; Waimea Canyon Park; and the Kekaha Landfill.
