LIHU‘E — There are just too many books for the shelves, said Carolyn Larson, branch manager of the Lihu‘e Public Library.
“This will be the biggest Lihu‘e Library book sale, yet,” Larson said in a release.
Doors open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday for the sale, which will feature thousands of printed volumes on a wide array of topics as well as a selection of CDs, DVDs, audio and video tapes.
Sunday hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the library conference room.
Selections include collections of paperback and hard-cover fiction, Hawaiiana, children’s books, reference books, self-help books, cookbooks and travel volumes, the release states.
Additionally, there are some foreign-language, finance, religion, science, literature, poetry and other books.
Paperback and hard-cover books are priced at $1 each, or “a buck a book,” she said. Some of the new books, first editions, and the rare or valuable books will have special prices posted on them.
Materials on sale represent books that are removed from library stock during regular maintenance of the collections as well as donated volumes from readers. All books are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, and Larson said shoppers have always found something they were looking for, even on the final day of the sale.
Funds from the sale go to support the public programs and services of the Lihu‘e Public Library, including the ongoing youth summer reading program.
“This is particularly important now when there are budget cuts everywhere,” Larson said.
