Kaeo Parongao broke a 6-6 deadlock in the bottom of the seventh inning to push Hanapepe into the championship slot of the Kaua‘i Protect Our Nation’s Youth baseball league, Wednesday.
Playing at the Hanapepe Stadium, Lihu‘e, taking an 8-6 win over Kekaha on Tuesday, met up with Hanapepe, a 2-1 winner over Kapa‘a, Tuesday, for the title in the single-elimination tournament.
Lihu‘e played Kekaha at Vidinha Stadium, while Hanapepe hosted Kapa‘a at Hanapepe Stadium with the winners advancing to the championship round.
If Lihu‘e had pulled off a win, a championship game would have resulted on June 2.
But with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning and just one out, Parongao was able to push a run across for the win and the title.
Dondi Viquelia, the Kaua‘i PONY commissioner, said an All-Star team will be selected and represent Kaua‘i at the PONY State Regional Tournament on O‘ahu, July 2-6.
