KCP presents ‘Art’
7 p.m. today and Saturday; 4 p.m. Sunday
KAPA (Kaua‘i Alliance for the Performing Arts) Warehouse Theatre, Puhi
Kaua‘i Community Players presents “Art,” which has been extended through June 6. Three men suffer an apocalypse in their 20-year friendship when one spends $50,000 on a white painting. Marc (Dennis McGraw) berates Serge (Jason Blake) for his ridiculous status-climbing purchase as their third friend, Yvan (Morgan Liddell), volleys the two arguments in a bumbling attempt to appease each. What ensues is a crisis of friendship unearthing two decades of resentments. Written by French playwright, Jasmina Reza, and translated from French by Christopher Hampton, “Art” won worldwide acclaim and awards, including the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy; the 1998 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Best Play and the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for KCP members, seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased online at kauaicommunityplayers.org or by calling 1-800-838-3006. The KAPA Warehouse Theatre is behind the Harley Davidson store in Puhi.

Roundup
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday
Koke‘e State Park
That plucky mountain event celebrating Kaua‘i’s natural environment steps into its third decade of forest fun for the whole family in the lush Kanaloahuluhulu Meadow. Sponsored by Hui o Laka since 1989, the 21st annual roundup includes several new features, including serving as the finish line for the first-ever “Pedal to the Meadow” bike race, a Kekaha-to-Koke‘e race that begins a 7 a.m. Early finishers should be at the meadow by 9 a.m. The big tent is where the basket workshop takes place. Small mountains of the aggressive South American vine are collected the week before, ready for those who’d like to learn how to fashion the pesky plant into attractive, rustic baskets. Call 335-9975 to register. Retired educator Takeshi Fujita will teach how to make oshibana cards out of pressed flowers and ferns. For the first time, participants can learn now to make miniature floral arrangements starting with a recycled cat-food can and using mountain foliage and flowers. Materials are provided for all workshops, though participants are encouraged to bring their own garden clippers. Music will be by Harry Koizumi, Paul Togioka and Nick Castillo and The Happy Enchalatas. There will be educational exhibits displayed by environmental agencies and organizations. To sign up for the basket workshop (the $15 fee makes you a member of Hui o Laka), call 335-9975, Ext. 0.
