LIHU‘E — With cast and crew arriving on the island by the ship loads (sorry), casting has gotten very specific for Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”
The open casting call for women is essentially for two roles, one a Caucasian and the other a Hispanic, as well as for smallish Spanish men, said Sande Alessi, casting agent for the film.
The casting call is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Puhi at the Kaua‘i Community College student lounge near the cafeteria, she said in an e-mail.
They will be casting for Syrena, a young Caucasian female with pale skin, age 18 to 30, very thin, around 5 feet 6 inches tall, with hair colored dark blond to brown; and Angelica, a young Hispanic female with olive-colored skin, age 18 to 30, again thin, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall, with dark-colored hair.
Spanish men ages 18 to 50, with slim to average builds, with coat sizes of 42 or smaller, are still being sought, as are card-carrying Screen Actors Guild members who did not attend another open call.
Also sought is a cabin-boy double who can be a Caucasian male or female, age 18 to 25, height 5 feet 3 inches tall to 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 95 pounds.
All attending the open casting call are asked to bring recent 3×5 color photos and pens, she said.
Those who were chosen to be pirates are being contacted now, and she said in a telephone interview she is confident she will be able to hire all Kauaians for the extra roles for the portion of the film to be shot on this island.
“That’s the goal, to keep it all local. We found some great people” at the men’s open casting call at the Lihu‘e Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall, she said.
