Votes were tallied and scholarships awarded to each of the participating musicians based on competition results.
Megan Ross, Kaua‘i High School vocalist, received a first-place scholarship of $4,000. She has been accepted to Montana State University where she will study nursing and minor in music.
The second-place award of $2,500 was granted to Joyce Peralta, pianist from Kaua‘i High School, who is planning to attend either Biola University in Los Angeles or Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y.
Vocalist Elaine Guest of Kaua‘i High School received the third-place award of $1,500. She has been accepted to the American Musical and Dramatic Arts Academy in Los Angeles.
James Roy Paleracio, who played the ‘ukulele during the competition but also plays the trumpet, was awarded a scholarship of $1,000. Paleracio is a Waimea High School senior who has been accepted to Eastern Washington University.
The Mokihana Club encourages young musicians of Kaua‘i by awarding annual scholarships to high-school seniors who plan to further their music studies.
