KALAHEO — Diana Simao of American Savings Bank had a nice present for Teachers Appreciation Week, Tuesday morning.
Not only did she have a check for $1,875, representing Kalaheo School’s efforts at establishing new ASB accounts, she also brought along a box of malasada so teachers could enjoy the treat.
“The winner was supposed to win $100,000, but each school gets $25 for each new account,” said Kalaheo School principal Erik Burkman. “Waiana‘e High School on O‘ahu ended up winning the overall prize.”
Simao said Kalaheo School was the highest school with new accounts on Kaua‘i and finished fourth in the state.
“The program was open to all schools, but some schools pushed and others didn’t,” Simao said. “Kalaheo School had the help of a lot of parents in their big push.”
