HANAKAPI‘AI — A female visitor from Tiburon, Calif. was airlifted from Hanakapi‘ai Tuesday afternoon after suffering an asthma attack, a county news release said Wednesday.
The 28-year-old California resident had been hiking on the Kalalau Trail near an area commonly known as Red Hill at around 2 p.m. when the incident occurred. Hikers coming off the trail notified authorities about the incident.
Rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e fire station and Air-1 responded.
The woman was picked up from a Hanakapi‘ai loading zone and flown to Princeville Airport, where she was checked by medics.
After declining further treatment, she was released at the scene.
