LIHU‘E — Make it six signed recruits for Gib Arnold’s inaugural basketball class as the University of Hawai‘i announced the addition of Bobby Miles to the 2010-11 Rainbow Warriors squad, Tuesday.
Miles, a 6-foot-1-inch point guard from Workman High School in City of Industry, Calif., earned his second consecutive league MVP award as a senior, averaging 27.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 5.6 assists a game.
The playmaking prospect was nominated as a McDonald’s All-American, as well as being named to the All-CIF 4A Second Team.
“We’re thrilled to have Bobby join our UH family,” Arnold said in a UH press release. “He’s a phenomenal kid who I believe Hawai‘i fans will really enjoy watching for the next four years. He just started to burst onto the national scene and his future is extremely bright.”
Miles will be heading to Manoa along with Bo Barnes (6’4”, Scottsdale, Ariz.), Jordan Coleman (6’4”, Calabasas, Calif.), Vander Joaquim (6’10”, Angola), Josten Thomas (6’7”, Washington, D.C.) and Trevor Wiseman (6’7”, Valencia, Calif.), compiling a group of nationally recognized players for Arnold’s first season.

Softball eyeing WAC title
LIHU‘E — The undefeated Hawai‘i softball team (39-11, 17-0) can clinch the Western Athletic Conference championship with a single victory in this weekend’s three-game series with Fresno State (33-14, 12-3).
The two teams will square off in a single game at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by Saturday’s doubleheader at 4 p.m.
Saturday night will be senior night, as the team’s five leaders — Katie Grimes, Tasha Pagdilao, Kanani Pu‘u-Warren, Amanda Tauali‘i and Traci Yoshikawa — play their final home game.
The Wahine currently lead the nation in home runs (123) and slugging percentage (.650) thanks in large part to its pair of freshman sluggers. Kaua‘i’s Jessica Iwata, shortstop, tops the team with a .404 batting average and has set a UH single-season record with 20 doubles.
Fellow frosh centerfielder Kelly Majam is just a tick behind Iwata with a .403 average and has slammed a record 25 home runs to this point.
