Bernard Almarza, Olin Kaulili, M.J. Abigania and John Petrovitz are the Kaua‘i bowlers who will be part of the field when the PBA West/Northwest Region 11th Annual Rice Shopping Center Open rolls starting Sunday.
Defending champion Tony Reyes, the 17th PBA member to record a 300 game on national television, and Michael Haugen Jr., holder of two national titles including the 2008 Tournament of Champions, will be leading the field when the Pro Am event rolls starting at 4 p.m. at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center.
During the Pro-Am event, local bowlers can team up with the tournament members in a 9-pin No-tap format tournament.
Prior to that, bowlers, including the Kaua‘i and other Hawai‘i bowlers, have an opportunity to warm up for the action during the official practice session which runs from 1 to 3 p.m.
Following the Pro Am event, the annual lu‘au is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to this event at $20 per person.
The Rock n’ Bowl Pro Am for sponsors and their guests will follow the lu‘au.
Tournament play for the PBA event starts Monday with eight games of qualifying play starting at 10 a.m.
The Monday field will be whittled for match play, Tuesday to determine this year’s champion.
The public is invited to view all portions of the three-day bowling tournament at no charge.
