Cut down on emergency travel time
On March 23, The Garden Island reported the sad story of a man who was stricken on top of Sleeping Giant and was airlifted by Air-1 to Wailua Homesteads Park. He was then taken by ambulance from the park to Wilcox hospital.
Last September I was emergency airlifted by county-chartered helicopter from Hanakapi‘ai Beach to Princeville airport from where an ambulance transported me to Wilcox hospital. Fortunately for me, when I was airlifted and transported to Wilcox my injuries at the time were not life-threatening. Furthermore, the medical technician in the ambulance was extremely professional and competent.
However, I wonder why the rescue helicopters do not fly their stricken or injured passengers directly to Wilcox hospital. This could potentially mean the difference between life and death because of the transportation time saved.
I have seen on the Mainland where emergency helicopters often will land either directly on hospital roofs or on landing spots immediately adjacent to the hospital (this may be true on other Hawaiian islands as well) thus avoiding the additional vehicle transfer and additional transportation time. Shouldn’t Kaua‘i have this more efficient and potentially life-saving procedure as well?

New accountability would help
With all due respect, Judge Laureta, we probably have reached the end of the line when you find in your March 21 letter a “big difference” between a competent chief executive who is well trained and one who is qualified by education and experience. With quibbles like that progress is improbable.
In your letter you seem to be saying that an executive with inadequate training will assemble a team of people with the necessary qualifications that will approximate the capability of a more qualified person. Maybe. But why assemble and pay for people you don’t need?
In an earlier letter you said Kaua‘i has many competent well-trained executives who would be worthy candidates for mayor and I asked you to name a few. No response was forthcoming.
Apparently you are content with our present governmental system. But please answer some questions:
Are you satisfied with our traffic problems and the leadership’s efforts to solve them?
Are you comfortable with the annual costs of our solid waste enterprise fund continuing for 13 years with no new landfill site found?
Do you approve of controls on development with VDA being violated and vacation rentals proliferating?
Will we have continuing property tax stability for our residents?
Are you content with our road maintenance?
Is it acceptable for the enterprise fund for our Wailua Golf Course and county bus system having large annual deficits continually?
Do you believe our government is working as well as it should?
If you don’t see the problems that underlie these questions require answers beyond playing musical chairs with the same people and system now in force you must have blinders on.
A county manager system may not solve all these problems, but new efficiency and accountability would certainly help.

Alchemical rosary
The Island Album in the March 29 issue of The Garden Island shows Tootsie Sanchez displaying her golden rosary at St. Catherine’s Church. The information provided says the rosary changed from silver to gold on March 25, 2009 over a seven-day period. Coincidentally, this observation I also made of my own hand-created rosary. The mother-of-pearl beads and specific sets of silver links have changed to gold.
From a scientific and intuitive perspective, the question is, “why is the silver turning to gold?” Those who are familiar with alchemy understand that this ancient practice was to change a base metal into gold. This highly regarded metal represented longevity, wisdom, curing health conditions, attaining immortality, and for some alchemists, changing the physical form into gold. A catalyst of some imaginary substance was used for the alchemical change to take place.
The rosary is a connection to the spiritual feminine. It highlights our initiations as revealed in the wisdom teachings. The rosary turning from silver to gold lets us know that its power is of an alchemical nature promoting wholeness, wisdom, and immortality. It also communicates to us the power of the divine feminine to bring about change.
Furthermore, the rosary is a channel for the feminine spirit and grace to act in our lives, helping to bring about the balance so desired during this transition time of accelerated changes. That the alchemy demonstration began on March 25, the day honored as the Annunication, is a reminder of our own Annunciation initiation which symbolizes pureness and commitment. The quality of pureness relates to our choice of thoughts, words we use, and care of our physical form.
Alchemy is one of the key qualities of the emerging new Aquarian era. The golden rosary leads the way encouraging us to balance and harmonize our sevenfold nature.
There is an Aquarian version of the traditional rosary available in CD form. Joyous harp background music supports the universal spirit of the lyrics promoting peace and compassion, the gifts of spiritual alchemy.
