KAPA‘A — Spending Saturday morning, April 17 with the Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park is a fun way to honor Earth Day this year and meet some new friends. Several areas around the Park need attention, from simple activities like clearing driftwood from the beach to more skilled tasks involving carpentry repairs in Kamalani Playground.
Volunteer registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the Main Pavilion at Lydgate Park, and lunch will be served.
We still need a few more willing volunteers to serve as team leaders. If you are able to help with the effort, please call 639-1018 and we’ll determine how best to fit you in to this rewarding community workday. Additionally, we are recruiting civic service groups, so kindly let me know if your organization can come help in the Park.
Recommended attire is clothing suitable for yard work, including gloves, closed toed shoes, and sun protection.
“Since this is Earth Day, we ask volunteers to bring their own water containers or canteens,” said Food Coordinator Annaleah Atkinson. “We want to avoid unnecessary individual-serving plastic bottles, especially in consideration of the fuel and emissions necessary to transport water to Kauai. We’ll provide delicious Kaua‘i water to our thirsty volunteers, and serve everyone a hearty lunch.”
The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park operates in fiscal partnership with the YWCA of Kaua‘i, and more information is available by visiting www.kamalani.org or calling 245-5959.
