Kaua‘i High School and Waimea High School tennis teams took their respective matches, Saturday.
Kaua‘i High School, hosting Island School at the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts, finished with the boys winning 4-1 over Island School and the girls sweeping the Voyagers, 5-0.
Kapa‘a High School, hosting Waimea at the Kapa‘a High School tennis courts, was victimized by the visitors, the Warrior wahine dropping 4-1 to Waimea and the Kapa‘a boys being edged out by Waimea, 3-2.
The deciding match came in the Boys No. 3 Doubles when Waimea took three sets to win the match and decide the outcome.
Mark Razalan teamed with Benigno Baclig to edge out the Kapa‘a duo of Reggie Agaran and Ryan Lopez, winning the third set, 7-5, for the decider.
Kaylie Nakamura and Jazzerie Taeza of the Kapa‘a No. 1 Girls Doubles also took three sets before nailing the match down against the Waimea pair of Rachel Umetsu and Miriam Corpuz, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
Ryan Bieker, playing the No. 2 Boys Singles for Kaua‘i, went tough against Ryan Perez of Island School, winning in three, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, while the Raiders’ third Boys Doubles team of Lyle Nemeth and Peter Nguyen took their match by default.
Kaua‘i’s No. 1 Girls Doubles also battled hard against the Island School pair of Meghan Perius and Kaualana Henneberg before Jennifer Grady and Jasmine Ikeda locked up the match in three, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
The Claypoole sisters, Joy and Lauren, of Island School also gave Kaua‘i some competition, the Raider pair of Jaimee Gali and Kristine Castillo nailing the Girls No. 3 Doubles in three, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
This Saturday’s matches will see Kapa‘a traveling to the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts against Kaua‘i. Waimea visits Island School at the Kaua‘i Community College courts, both matches starting at noon.
The public is invited as there is no admission charge to view the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation tennis competition.
