Registration for the Mokihana Aquatics 2010 Spring Break swim classes are currently being accepted.
Classes will be for Tiny Tots — with six, or an optional seven classes — beginners and advanced swimmers.
Sessions for the Tiny Tots will be held on March 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20. The seven-session course will follow the same dates and will add an ocean safety class on Mar. 17 at Kalapaki Beach.
Sessions meet from noon to 12:30 p.m., or 12:30 to 1 p.m. on the designated dates.
Registration for the six-course program is $60 per swimmer and registration for the seven-course program is $75 per swimmer and $50 for each additional family member.
Tiny Tot classes teach children, ages 3 and 4-years-old, the basic skills in swimming, including survival skills.
Beginner classes will be held each day except Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Saturday class is from 11 a.m. to noon.
Beginner swimming for ages five and above is designed help students feel comfortable in the water and includes skills in safe entry/exit from the water, beginner strokes, jumping into deep water and floating. Swimmers must pass a skills test to graduate.
Advanced beginners meet daily except Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m.
Saturday class is from 10 to 11 a.m.
The advanced beginners class is designed to build on skills learned in the beginners class and promote water safety.
Some of the skills taught include survival skills, survival floating, dives and the fundamentals of the five major swimming strokes including the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and breaststroke. Swimmers must pass a survival skill and skills test to pass.
