LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative Board of Directors approved filing additional testimony with the Hawai‘i Public Utilities Commission at its February meeting, KIUC said in a news release Tuesday.
The additional testimony was filed Monday for its pending rate case proceeding, providing, among other things, an updated overall revenue increase of approximately 3.2 percent, down from the 10.5 percent requested in KIUC’s original application filed on June 30, 2009.
This is due in large part to improved kilowatt-hour sales and an increased amount of revenue earned through the fuel adjustment mechanism since the time the application was filed, together with other updates and adjustments, the release says.
The net result is that KIUC’s requested overall revenue increase has dropped to $4.8 million from the approximately $13 million increase sought in the original filing.
The overall revenue increase would result, if approved, in differing rate increases for each rate class, depending on the cost of service associated with each rate class, with the residential class receiving a base rate increase of approximately 5.6 percent instead of the 10.5 percent increase sought as part of the original filing.
