LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i High School Key Club returned home with two first place trophies and the Outstanding Large Club award.
Represented by 32 Key Club members and three advisors, the Kaua‘i High School Key Club participated in the 49th Annual Key Club State Convention at Keauhou, Kona on the Big Island, Feb. 12-14.
For the seventh straight year, the Kaua‘i Key Clubbers took first place in the Non-Traditional Scrapbook category with its presentation of a musical CD rack titled “Soundtracks of Service” filled with “albums,” each one representing a service project performed by the club.
On the back where musical credits and tunes are found, the club listed members involved in the project as well as an overview of the project.
The club also captured first place honors in the Talent Show for the second straight year, and brought home the Outstanding Large Club award for the fourth straight year.
David Ochoco was voted the new Lieutenant Governor for Key Club Division 22 and will be joined by Peter Nguyen, vying for the governor’s position, at the Cal-Nev-Ha district convention in Sacramento, Calif. in April, said Charlene Navarro, a club advisor.
The pair will be taking the prize-winning Non-Traditional Scrapbook for competition at the next level.
Members who worked on the scrapbook include Nguyen, Daisy Liberato, Tyler Navarro, Sheldon Chu, Kimberly Oride and Heather Hamamura.
Club members participating in the convention include Geomar Acob, Raisa Carlos, Walter Castillo, Katie Ceria-Johnson, Chu, Christopher Flynn, Justin Fujikawa, Hamamura, Kevin Jian, Rochelle Julian, Kelsey Kabazawa, BJ Kai, Matthew Kanna, Shaun Koide, Kellie Kurasaki, Chrystal Joy Liberato, Otis Llewellyn, Lance Matsumoto, Shyanne Matsumoto, Desiree Morden, Travis Navarro, Tyler Navarro, Nguyen, Ochoco, Oride, Bryan Ruiz, Julie Anne Sagabaen, Kai Sawada, Kristen Sugihara, Ryan Valenciano and Reiyan Zhao.
Advisors included Andy Kakutani, Charlene Navarro and Jodi Maeda.
Kristen Fuchigami, Kathy Morishige, Avian Nakaya and Lane Tokita are the other club advisors.
