LIHU‘E — Rotary of Kaua‘i will be participating in the Weingberg Friends Program of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc. Through the program, Rotary Club of Kaua‘i members conducted a community service project benefiting Kaua‘i Food Bank.
Through this effort the Rotary Club also recommended to the Weinberg “Friends Program” a $10,000 award to Leadership Kaua‘i to continue the following 2010 programs and community projects that assist the poor and needy on Kaua‘i: Pi‘ina Hoku youth leadership program, Kukui Malamalama mentoring project, the Pulama Kupuna project and Laulima, the keiki scholarship fund.
Pi‘ina Hoku enlists a diverse cross section of youth that represent different backgrounds, cultures and schools including public, private, and home schooling. Since 2006, Leadership Kaua‘i has successfully served at-risk youth who are handicapped, out of school, failing in school, from broken homes and those who are below the median family income by 50 percent of which the Weinberg Foundation specifically targets funding for.
The Pi‘ina Hoku class of 2010, Youth Program is introducing an energy education community project this year. Through partnerships with KIUC and Trex Enterprise, this project group will create and development the Kaua‘i Energy Education Program.
