LIHU‘E — The scheduled playoff game to determine the leader of the first round of Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys basketball will not take place.
Ross Shimabukuro, athletic director of Kaua‘i High School, said he received a phone call from Greg Gonsalves, Kapa‘a High School athletic director, Friday afternoon.
Gonsalves informed him that Kapa‘a forfeited the Wednesday night game against Waimea after discovering a Kapa‘a player violated team rules.
That forfeit gives the Round 1 title to Kaua‘i High School and eliminates the need for a playoff for the round.
The next time the two teams meet will be on Jan. 30 when Kaua‘i travels to the Bernice Hundley Gym against Kapa‘a to open Round 2.
The junior varsity open the doors with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff, followed by the varsity game 20 minutes after the completion of JV.
Waimea High School will be hosting Island School on Jan. 30 with a single game tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
