LIHU‘E — As part of the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Day peace celebration, participants in the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program are spearheading a food drive, a county press release states.
The event is scheduled on Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center.
A food collection table will be set up near center stage during the Celebration of Peace.
Non-perishable food items and monetary donations will be accepted with proceeds to benefit the Kaua‘i Food Bank.
The local food drive is among the hundreds of activities being organized throughout the country by the Senior Corps, the parent organization of RSVP, to honor the legacy of Dr. King.
The Kaua‘i County RSVP is sponsored by the Agency on Elderly Affairs.
RSVP offers seniors 55 years and older the opportunity to give back to the community by sharing their time and talents with nonprofit and government agencies.
For more information about the food drive or RSVP, call the county Agency on Elderly Affairs at 241-4470.
