LIHU‘E — With details and logistics all worked out, the First Hawaiian Bank State Football Championships are all set to go with the first round kicking off Friday night.
The top 12 teams from across the state are competing for Hawai‘i’s top prize in the 11th annual Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association tournament. Six teams from Division I and six from Division II will participate in the three-week event.
The playoffs will culminate with a championship doubleheader on Dec. 4 at Aloha Stadium.
Kaua‘i, in the Div. II bracket, received a bye and will not play until Nov. 27 against the winner of this week’s Moanalua-Hawai‘i Prep game at 7 p.m., Friday at Moanalua High School. Top-seeded Iolani will take on the winner of the Lahainaluna-Aiea game in the other semifinal contest.
OC16 will be televising this week’s Div. I first-round game between Leilehua and Baldwin, kicking off at 6 p.m. Friday from War Memorial Stadium on Maui. That showing will mark the first O16 sports broadcast from Maui.
They will also be televising the Div. I semifinal doubleheader on Nov. 27. These yet-to-be-determined matchups will be played at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
The championship doubleheader, set for Dec. 4, will be shown live on pay-per-view on channels 260 and 1260. The Div. II game kicks off at 4:30 p.m., the Div. I game at 7:30 p.m.
Orders for the championship games can be placed by Kaua‘i customers for $14.95 prior to gameday. The cost rises to $24.95 on gameday. The same prices apply for all outer island buyers.
O‘ahu customers will pay $29.95 before Dec. 4, $49.95 on gameday.
Starcomm Sports Radio on ESPN 1420 will broadcast the first-round game between Honokaa and Farrington at 7 p.m., Friday from Kealakehe High School. The audio feed will be available on 1420 AM, 1080 AM, or online at www.starcommsportsradio.com.
