Reconsider alt route
This letter is to request that you reconsider the proposed location of the multi use path along Wailua Beach. After careful consideration of both the cultural and environmental concerns raised by many in our community, I’m sure you can see why relocating the path would be prudent, wise and beneficial to our community.
I was pleased to hear that you attended the cultural program organized by many of our island’s respected kumu hula. Their practices, beliefs and concerns were shared with all who attended. My family attended on Friday evening and was moved by the outpouring of aloha for Wailuanuiaho’ano and all of Kaua’i and for the respect of the elements, the aina and the kupuna who came before us. Mahalo to them and their haumana for creating such a moving testament to preserving the remnants of their sacred lands while sharing their culture and teaching us about respecting both the natural and spiritual world that exists for us all.
You can imagine my disbelief that you would have scheduled a ‘stakeholders’ meeting while this vigil was planned. Mahalo for rescheduling this meeting and for including the mana’o of those who represent the host culture and embody the common values of respect for place, for the natural world and the spiritual dimensions of kuleana to malama each other and the aina for future generations. Mahalo for attending this demonstration of aloha and for understanding the importance of your decision to locate our path in a pono way in a pono location. Your burden of leadership is great and to listen to the wise words of those leading the ceremonies along the coast of Wailuanuiaho’ano would help ease that burden. As was pointed out during the ceremonies, the gift for the future begins with our actions now and how we honor the past. Construction of a multi use path on the beach is not the way we should honor the past nor preserve it for the future.
As users and supporters of Ke Ala Hele Makalae, our family would enjoy an alternative path greatly, knowing that the sacred sites of Wailuanuiaho’ano are preserved, protected and undisturbed for future generations. Mahalo for considering this request and we hope that you will consider an alternate path for the Wailua section of Ke Ala Hele Makalae.

KIUC outsourcing
I just paid my KIUC bill. I noticed it goes to a P.O. Box in Honolulu instead of a local address.
This could only mean that we are outsourcing jobs from Kaua‘i to Honolulu. Next step will be an address on the Mainland.
If KIUC is unwilling to keep jobs on Kaua‘i and it is a “cooperative” how will anyone else? My friends and neighbors can only hope that McDonald’s has enough jobs for everyone on Kaua‘i.
KIUC please tell me I got this wrong?

Pot calling the kettle black
So it seems Fox news is misleading and a washed up “newscaster” is passing judgment (“Fox Views,” Letters, Nov. 16).
We know it’s very hard for an individual immersed in the news business to know what unbiased news is these days, but it’s another thing for one of them to put down the most watched news programs in the world.
One thing for sure, people aren’t duped for long and their inner voice lets them know the truth when they hear it.
Fox News buries the competition with ratings that surpass the liberally biased news sources by millions of viewers every day. With each viewer tuned in counting as a vote the more accurate reporting of Fox News has been elected by more than a landslide nationwide. All the rest didn’t even show up.
Talk radio has scores of conservative unbiased programs that command millions of listeners daily, while the liberal zealots spent millions of dollars to compete with their own channel only to go bankrupt.
People can recognize selfish dribble when they hear it and simply tune it out. In this liberal “it’s all about me world” we’ve created it’s very difficult to define reality by listening to charismatic orators with their empty words, lack of relevant experience and convenient visions of dreams. The spinning and bias of the far left newscasters in today’s world is pathetic and the majority of news viewers know it.
Oh well, just another example of the pot calling the kettle black.

Hard losses
It is so upsetting to hear of any youngin’ in a fatality crash.
I was especially hurt by the news surrounding Paddy Ramson’s son, thinking back on how as a police officer, Paddy has always been attentive to standing firm with many young men his son’s age, my son included.
I will be ever thankful for the sacrifices made in his position of protecting and serving. Even the police chief has had a similar loss, now the mayor’s nephew, and remembering Scotty, where finally the lowering of the “Blood Alley” speed limit took place.
