A deadlock between the first and second place Junior Midget teams kept the standings intact, Saturday.
Kapa‘a Eagles, the leader in the division standings of the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League, maintained a two-point lead over challenging Koloa. Kapa‘a, following Saturday’s 6-6 tie with Koloa, sits at 6-0-1 and 13 points, challenged by Koloa at 5-1-1 and 11 points.
Kyren Rapacon put Koloa on the boards with a three-yard charge into the end zone at the 6:30 mark of the opening period for the 6-0 lead.
Kapa‘a answered that score at the 1:41 mark of the same period when Rashaan Kuhaulua connected with Daniel Alonzo on a 20-yard scoring pass.
Both teams failed their conversions for the 6-6 deadlock.
The Hanapepe Colts Jr. Midgets picked up their second season win on a 34-20 shootout to move into a solid third place in the Jr. Midget standings.
Hanapepe’s Clysen Agrade peeled off scores of 27, 87 and 38 yards to lead the Colts’ victory over the Kekaha Chargers at the New Kapa‘a Town Park stadium. Agrade nailed two scores in the second quarter and iced the win in the final period with his 38-yard scamper to paydirt.
Blaze Rendon put the Colts on the board midway through the opening frame on a nine-yard dash to paydirt and Prestyn Parongao, kicking the successful PAT following Rendon’s TD, posted his own score on a 22-yard run to the end zone with only 10 seconds peeled off the second period. That score put the Colts up 14-0.
Acetyn Emayo answered the deficit for Kekaha with the first of his three Charger scores, capping the drive on a 13-yard run and kicking the point-after for a 14-8 deficit.
Emayo answered the 28-8 halftime deficit in the third quarter with two scores, a 72-yard run and a 30-yard score with both PAT attempts coming up empty. With just 15 ticks showing in the third quarter, Emayo’s 30-yard score saw Kekaha close the gap 28-20 before Agrade’s final quarter score.
The Colts Jr. Midgets improve to 2-4 and four points while Kekaha drops to a tie with the Lihu‘e Patriots at 1-5 and two points.
Bryce Dato scored on a three-yard run and Thomas Yam ran in the point-after in the first quarter for the only score in the Kapa‘a Eagles Junior Pee Wee’s 7-0 win over Koloa.
That Kapa‘a win improves the Eagles to 5-1-1 in the Jr. Pee Wee standings with 11 points while Koloa drops to fourth place at 2-5 and four points.
Jaycob Rapanot scored three touchdowns to lead the JPW Kekaha Seahawks to a 19-8 final over the JPW Hanapepe Colts.
Noah Ruiz put the JPW Colts on the board first before Kekaha answered with the Rapanot scores of four, one and 29 yards, two of his scores coming in the final period. He also ran in a PAT in the fourth period.
Following the JPW Eagles, the Lihu‘e Patriots are challenging with a 5-1 record and 10 points, followed by Kekaha sitting at 3-2-1 and seven points. Koloa JPW finishes Saturday with a 2-5 record and four points while the JPW Colts are 0-6.
Vidinha Stadium is the site for Saturday’s Pop Warner games when Hanapepe opens against Kapa‘a starting at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Lihu‘e hosts Kekaha in the afternoon series starting at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
