LIHU‘E — Earl Thronas came up with a bullish 10-yard touchdown with 30 seconds in the game, but the effort fell short as Kapa‘a Na Koa dropped to the Lihu‘e Bulldogs, 28-13, Wednesday at the American Youth Football midget game.
In that win, the Bulldogs came back against Na Koa when Bulldog quarterback Royce Allianic threw for two touchdowns and Reggie McFadden intercepted a pass and ran a touchdown.
Lihue held a slim 7-6 lead until the 5:14 mark of the third period when Allianic hit McFadden for a five-yard scoring pass.
McFadden announced the Bulldogs in the final period by running the ball in on a nine-yard keeper play with less than 10 seconds peeled off the clock.
The point-after failed and the Bulldogs looked at a 22-6 lead.
Following a strong runback of the kickoff by Na Koa’s Thronas, McFadden struck as he plucked a Fresno Masaniai pass intended for Julian Hines.
Cory Somera-Payomo was injured on the play, which delayed the match when the ambulance was summoned by the on-scene paramedics in the interest of safety.
The two team square off again on Nov. 11 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the New Kapa‘a Town Park stadium. This will be the only game the American Youth Football plays in Kapa‘a.
